About Us
Hello, we're Charlie and Nancy Fochs. We are the owners of Nanchas Elk Ranch which
we started 1994. Many people ask, how did you get into elk? Charlie an avid elk hunter,
with a great respect and admiration for this majestic animal began to wonder if it was
possible to raise elk, so he and I could enjoy them year round. As Charlie began to
investigate this business he discovered the significance of velvet elk antler in Korea, and
that raising elk could also become profitable. In February of 1994 he purchased our first
elk. Initially, I did not share the enthusiasm my husband had, one of my concerns was
the fact that we did not own property where we could keep elk. In June of 1994 we
purchased a run down 160 acre farm and Nanchas Elk Ranch found it's home. The work began immediately starting with the removal of 13
dilapidated buildings, trenching underground water lines for the waterers and fencing 65 acres for the elk. In July as they
began to arrive, we had the sight we dreamed, of to get up every morning and look out the window and see ELK. What a view!
Then is August of 1994, as if the summer was
not busy enough, we got married. Today the ranch is home to over 100 head of elk, 1 quarter horse named Buck, one Norwegian Fjord horse, Hanna and a very special Great
Dane dog, Rocky. We have names for some of the elk, but the most special elk on the ranch is Moses. He was orphaned in 1998 by one of our elk cows and we had to raise
him. He was about 16 hours old when we began the task of nursing him which continued until the end of summer. Soon Moses and Rocky became good buddies. Now Moses
lives with the rest of the bull herd, but he still comes and greets us.
Hope you enjoy our family pictures. By the way the name Nanchas came from the combination of our two
names Nancy and Charlie.
