The following are some of the most commonly asked questions about
AntlerPower and Velvet Antler:
What is the product Antler Power?
AntlerPower is the Trademark name for velvet antler capsules distributed by Nutritional Advantage Elk
Products, Inc. This company was founded in 1999. Over 90% of the stockholders in the business are actual elk
ranchers themselves breeding and raising elk to produce quality velvet antler.
What is an antler?
An antler grows from bony bumps called pedicles, on the head of the bull (male elk). Each year a new antler
begins to grow pushing the old antler off The regeneration of this new antler is influenced by hormonal changes
which are regulated by the change in daylight with the seasons. In contrast a horn, like on buffalo, it does not
fall off each year.
What is velvet antler?
As the new antler grows in it is covered with fine hairs. During this stage of development the entire antler
is called "velvet antler." At this time the antler is growing and beneath the surface is a cartilaginous
type tissue supplied with blood vessels and nerves. The velvet antler continues to grow until the cartilage
begins to turn to bone. It is prior to the antler turning to bone, when it is in it's most nutrient abundant
growth stage that the antler is harvested. The antler is harvested using humane and hygienic procedures which
have been established by the North American Elk Breeders Association.

What is the process the antler goes through after harvesting? After the antler is harvested from the elk it is frozen. It next goes to a government
inspected facility for processing. Here it is dried, the velvet covering removed then ground and pulverized.
Next the ground antler undergoes a microbiological analysis at a pharmaceutical testing laboratory. This
laboratory tests for the following: an aerobic plate count, salmonella, coliform, E Coli, Staphylococci, yeast
and molds. After the testing procedure it is encapsulated in 250 rag. capsules, labeled, bottled with 90
capsules and safety sealed. Each tested batch is assigned a number, along with an expiration date, which is on
the label.
Research continues around the world regarding the velvet antler. This
year the 1st International Symposium on Antler Science and Product
Technology will be held at Banff in Alberta, Canada. The dates are April 9 to 12.
